MASTER OF EDUCATION IN HOSPITALITY ORGANISATIONAL TRAINING AND MANAGEMENT


Introduction
The overall objective of master's level business and management degrees is to educate individuals as managers and business specialists, and thus to improve the quality of management as a profession. Master's degrees add value to first degrees by developing in individuals an integrated and critically aware understanding of management and organisations, and assist them to take effective roles within them. The purpose of these degrees is fourfold:

- the advanced study of organisations, their management and the changing external context in which they operate

- preparation for and/or development of a career in business and management by developing skills at a professional or equivalent level, or as preparation for research or further study in the area

- development of the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of business and management to complex issues, both systematically and creatively, to improve business and management practice

- enhancement of lifelong learning skills and personal development so as to be able to work with self-direction and originality and to contribute to business and society at large


Learning Outcomes<

At the end of the MEd programme, the student will have developed competencies to:

1. train individuals and teams within a diverse and multicultural global organisational environment;

2. critically analyze and question knowledge, theories and beliefs in education, training and development;

3. develop capabilities in individuals and teams for critical reflection and for life-long learning;

4. develop educational leaders of the future with capabilities for management of change, quality assessment and organisational learning;

5. manage training and development with reference to accepted standards of business ethics, corporate governance, and social responsibilities

Sequence of Studies
The MEd Programme consists of theoretical studies and two teaching skills development courses which include a teaching assistantship on one of our campuses, ending with the academic year the following June. During this period, students complete courses as well as develop their portfolio for the assessment of their assistantship. The applied research project is an opportunity to practice techniques, and is balanced and supervised so that students have sufficient time to study independently and explore areas that interest them. While students may typically complete the programme in one year, the period of registration is 6 years, and the organisation of the course and e-learning courses allow for alternative attendance options. Teaching assistantship may be carried out in the place of work, if appropriate assessment opportunities exist.

At the end of the Glion MBA programme, the student will have developed specific competencies in hotel, tourism and related service industry management to:

1. Lead and motivate individuals, teams and organisations within a diverse and multicultural global business environment

2. Critically analyze and question knowledge, theories and beliefs in functional disciplines such as marketing, finance, operations, and HR

3. Apply practical knowledge of sound industry practices to exploit strategic opportunities, manage effectively, and solve complex business problems

4. Critically analyze issues in technology management and innovation and their relevance for organisational success and competitive advantage

5. Make business decisions with reference to accepted industry standards of business ethics, corporate governance, and social responsibility.

Sequence of Studies
Students on this programme will typically complete their studies within 12 months. The programme consists of 2 taught semesters, during which all formal courses are completed. Courses are usually taught in 2 weeks blocks, except for the bridging credits and the dissertation. This allows students to immerse themselves in subjects and allows alternative patterns for attendance. Students must complete the programme within 6 years of registration.
